Case Keski : Bringing the Face of the Owner and the Wings of AI to Creativity

In collaboration with Banana Split Creative Team I had the opportunity to create campaign images for Keski-Rinkeli that uniquely combine the owner’s dedication with the near-limitless possibilities of AI. The impressive result has already garnered praise in the early stages of the campaign.

Keski is a family business with a history stretching back nearly 80 years. The factory founded in Pieksämäki in 1946 by Aili and Hannes Haara is now run by Sami Haara, for whom traditions and product quality are paramount. On the other hand, he values continuous innovation and bold solutions, including in marketing.

“Sami was initially skeptical about using AI, to say the least,” laughs Tommi Solehmainen, one of Banana Split’s partners.

Our joint project began when Banana Split convinced Sami that AI would provide the most creative possibilities for implementing the “Royally Good” concept. The idea was to transport the owner and his family, along with their products, to the midst of medieval, royal palace splendor. However, the absolute requirement was that the people’s faces were authentic in the images.
As cliché as it may sound, careful planning and close collaboration were again key to a successful outcome in this case. Banana Split’s Viljami’s carefully refined layouts and meticulous planning of the lighting for the facial shots, among other things, allowed the atmosphere of the real photos to blend seamlessly with the AI-created elements.

“In fact, the sketches and planning were made even more precisely in this production than in ‘traditional’ photo production,” says Creative Director Viljami Kukkanen. “We learned new and valuable lessons,” he continues.

The result was four unique campaign images with a resolution of over 10,000 pixels. This made it easy to create both portrait and landscape versions of the images for versatile use.
This project was a fascinating example of how real photography and AI can be used together to create creative and impactful images. By combining these two techniques, we can tell stories even more captivatingly – and that’s still what brand building is all about.

Here are a few key takeaways I learned from this project:

⭐️Real photography and AI can complement each other brilliantly. Real photography can bring authenticity and emotion to images, while AI offers limitless possibilities for creativity and imagination.
⭐️Design and collaboration are key. It is important that all parties understand the project’s goals and visions and work closely together to achieve a seamless result.
⭐️Technology is just a tool. The most important thing is the story you want to tell and the feeling you want to evoke in the viewer.

I am grateful to Banana Split’s team and Keski for this unique opportunity. It was a pleasure to work with such a creative and enthusiastic team and to be involved in creating images that reflect the unique character of this unique family business.
