Last week I got a chance to take some images of TaikaBox dancer Tanja Råman and her new project.
TaikaBox, based in Cardiff, Wales, was created in 2005 by choreographer Tanja Råman and visual/sound artist John Collingswood to produce dance work. The company’s name, taken from the Finnish word: ‘Taika’ means ‘magical’ or ‘enchanted’.
Over the years, the company has developed a distinct style that integrates abstract yet expressive movement with the innovative use of technology. The company aims to explore and enhance choreographic expression with the use of creative staging, using video, light, sound, photography, drawing and other artforms.
This photoshoot was about project/research called “Rites for the Digital Shaman”
On-going research into the post-digital condition in dance. Project explores the spiritual aspects of what is to be human and connects with the energy practice of shamanism in a digital performance context.
The research also investigates online platforms – such as Skype and live streaming – as new performance spaces to reach international audiences in a variety of locations, including galleries, university departments, public spaces and festivals.
