My second Fantasy Art Workshop (read about the first workshop here) was held at the same place, beautiful Eevantalo in the heart of Finland, but this time the theme was Pirates of the Caribbean. I invited two of my friends to model for us; Terry Cooper aka Cardiff Jack Sparrow all the way from Wales and chameleon Laura to play the part of a pirate wench. Terry is a spitting image of Captain Sparrow and Laura followed easily his lead into the age of pirates, so working with these two was both professional and hilarious!

The structure of my Fantasy Art Workshops has evolved from my Digital Artist workshops, as the two-and-a-half-day all-inclusive workshop gives the opportunity to guide the participants individually through the whole process of creating Fantasy art. The workshop starts with drafting the concept of the image and then planning it out by making moodboards and sketches. It is a really important to see the final image first in your mind to be able to figure out how to create it, and even a simple sketch will work as your guide during the photoshoot part. On the second day of the workshop comes the fun part, making the needed shots to make that vision into reality. Full day of shooting together and learning from others as the photographers take their cameras for a walk to make those shots either in the studio or outdoor location. The last day of the workshop is full speed retouching where I guide everyone individually with different retouching techniques needed to finish their images. It is really cool to see the images taking shape and especially to be there for the “ahaa” moments when all the parts fit together!

The quality of the images the students create during the workshop never ceases to amaze me. For some this was their first try at making a composite image and the results are just mind-blowing. From the following video you will get a glimpse of what goes on during the workshop. Enjoy!

We have already planned the Next Fantasy Art Workshop for this winter, but I’m still torn between good choices for the theme… Whatever it will be, be sure to book your place fast because so far the workshops have been sold out within hours.
